Google Chrome’s New Tab Page, Google+ Integrated

Author:

Google says their web browser, Google Chrome, is now even more app-ealing. Did you get it? Their play on words?

That’s right. They’ve redesigned their Tab Page making it more streamlined and easier to access and organize your apps. (Will this move them even closer to taking over second place?)

Being the visual person that I am, I love how their apps are now “presented in a wall of images” as they state on their blog. It’s updated everytime you visit, it’s more visually appealing and it’s just easier to find what you’re looking for. As for installing new apps, they’ve made that super simple as well. Just hover over the image and click “Add to Chrome”.

Continuing with their efforts to integrate Google+ into all of their products, the apps store now includes reviews from Google+ profiles. The reviews link back to the person’s Google+ profile.

They’ve also added some new apps such as My Robot Nation™, an app that lets you design your own robot and bring it to life with a 3D printer.

Here’s a quick video tour of the new updates from Google Chrome.

This won’t be the last update we see from Google Chrome. They have more new features coming!

What browser do you use and why? For those of you not using Google Chrome, do these new features make you want to switch?

Bye Bye Firefox, Hello Chrome? The Race for Second Place

Author:

According to new data released by StatCounter, Google’s Chrome Web browser could possibly become the second most popular, knocking Firefox down to third place. The data also shows this second place, behind Internet Explorer, could happen no later than December.

Chrome’s popularity has been astonishing and growing rapidly since 2008. They just celebrated their 3rd anniversary.

ComputerWorld shares, “As of Wednesday, Chrome’s global average user share for September was 23.6%, while Firefox’s stood at 26.8%. IE, meanwhile, was at 41.7%.”

What’s the reasoning behind the growth? You could say it’s because Chrome is more user-friendly and so naturally people will start to flock or you could say it’s because it’s owned by Google. I am sure their TV ads are helping somewhat.

Mozilla did release a browser update, Firefox 7, which claims faster web browsing. Have you downloaded it and noticed a difference? Also, which web browser do you use and why?

Chrome Turns Three Years Old Today, Happy Birthday Chrome

Author:

It was three years ago today (September 1st) that Google launched their Chrome web browser. How is Google celebrating this milestone? With an interactive infographic and a list of their most recent improvements to Chrome.

The interactive infographic was built in HTML5 and details the evolution of major web technologies and browsers. (It’s pretty darn cool to play around with if you ask me. )

Over time web technologies have evolved to give web developers the ability to create new generations of useful and immersive web experiences. Today’s web is a result of the ongoing efforts of an open web community that helps define these web technologies, like HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL and ensure that they’re supported in all web browsers.

Here are a few of the improvements made to Google Chrome over the last 12 months:

  • Faster and Faster
  • Simpler and more accessible
  • An even more secure platform
  • The Chrome web store
  • Delivering a new, simpler model for computing

We know this is just the beginning of improvements because Google hinted at it. They said to keep an eye on the blog “to hear about new features and performance improvements as we continue to ship stable channel updates every six weeks”.

Happy 3rd Birthday Chrome!
