If I wrote about Google‘s logo every time they changed it, it could get a little ridiculous. But I thought today’s animated Google doodle was well worth a mention. Why? Because it’s awesome, clever and it celebrates a very creative man.
The doodle is in honor of the late Arthur “Art” Clokey, a clay animation pioneer who is responsible for Gumby. Animator Anthony Scott (from Coraline) and puppet maker Nicole LaPointe-McKay created the doodle.
The Gumby Doodle starts off with clay balls and a wooden block. Gumby springs to life from one of the clay balls. As you click on the other clay balls and figures such as Pokey, Prickle the yellow dinosaur, the Blockheads and Goo appear. Here’s a video of the doodle.
The Google animation also celebrates the launch of GumbyWorld, which features episodes, games, activities and fun bits of information about the show and characters.
This is definitely one of my favorite Google doodles yet. Do you have a favorite one that sticks out in your mind?
