010 The Podcast Report – Leo Laporte Coming To NMX – Podcast Community Manager – And More!

Author:

Hey everyone, Cliff Ravenscraft here. I’m back with another episode of The Podcast Report.

Podcast Community Manager
I’m very excited to welcome Megan Enloe as a co-host to The Podcast Report. Back in August, the staff of NMX hired Megan to come on board as a community manager for the podcasting community. In the episode, we explain how this differs from my role as the director of podcasting for the conference.

One thing is for sure, I could not be happier to work with Megan to bring about the full vision that the staff of NMX has for the podcasting community. You’ll get to hear a great deal more about this vision as we produce weekly episodes of The Podcast Report between now and the show in January.

New Name, Dates & Location

In this episode, Megan and I talk briefly about the official announcement of the name change from BlogWorld & New Media Expo to NMX (New Media Expo). We also talk about the fact that the next event is coming up January 6-8, 2013 in Las Vegas. The room rates are only $99 per night and if you’re a geek like me, you may want to stay an extra day or two to check out CES.

Leo Laporte Coming To NMX

I’m super excited to announce that Leo Laporte will be providing our Keynote address for Monday, January 7th. Leo is going to be doing something out at NMX that you will simply not want to miss. However, we’ll talk more about that in next week’s episode of The Podcast Report.

Hey everyone, Cliff Ravenscraft here. I’m back with another episode of The Podcast Report.

Interview With Noah Shanok of Stitcher Radio
I was delighted to have the opportunity to interview Stitcher Radio’s CEO, Noah Shanok. Noah will be speaking on one of the panels for the Podcasting Track at #BWENY. The title of the panel that he will be on is “The Future of Podcast Distribution & Content Strategies.” You can attend this session on Wednesday, June 6th at 2:30pm Eastern Time.

In this interview with Noah, I asked the following questions. Be sure to have a listen to hear the answers to each of the following:

01. When, how, and why did Stitcher Radio get started?
02. How does Stitcher separates itself from apps like Downcast that allow users to create their own channels for podcasts?
03. Do you have any guidelines when it comes to the shows that you do add to your directory?
04. What car manufacturers are including radio systems in their cars that include or allow for the use of Stitcher Radio today?
05. How does that work? Do they have to install an app or does it come built into the radio?
06. How does your affiliate program work?
07. Do you have a plan for advertising and shared revenu in the future?
08. Tough question about re-compressing already compressed files.
09. Do you have custom Stitcher Radio Shows?
10. What are you working for the future of Stitcher Radio?

007 The Podcast Report – Tips For Getting The Most From Your Conference Experience

Author:

Hey everyone, Cliff Ravenscraft here. I’m back with another episode of The Podcast Report.

Tips For Getting The Most From Your Conference Experience
It’s hard to believe, but there are only two and a half weeks until #BWENY. In this week’s episode, I decided that I would share some tips on how to get the most value from your conference experience. I will list the tips below. I talk about each of these items in more detail within the episode.

– Look at the schedule ahead of time to find out what sessions you want to attend.

– Look at the list of speakers – Make a list of all those people you want to meet face to face.

– Take a digital recorder (even a smart phone with recording app) to record interviews for your show.

– Have lunch with someone you don’t already know.

– The person you are talking to is always worth your time. You can learn something from everyone you meet!

– Take people notes. Who did you meet? What intrigued you about them? What did you discuss? How did the topic come up? Initiate next steps?

Business Cards

– Plan your own meetup! – Wednesday, June 6th

– Talk with the venders on the expo floor. Could be the beginning of a great relationship.

– Enjoy the city! Make a list of things you want to do and see while in NYC! Invite a friend or group to join you!

Travel The World With Your Podcast
Also in this episode, I talk with Chef Mark Tafoya about the session that he’s created for the podcasting track. In the Bon Voyage: Travel the world with your blog or podcast session, Mark and his guest panelists will share with you how they started out taking advantage of “fam trips” (free travel to destinations that were interested in media coverage) for cultural and culinary exploration, and after nearly two dozen of these trips, how they built a whole new type of business model.

Stitcher Radio Podcast Pavilion
I’m very excited to announce that Stitcher Radio is sponsoring the Podcast Pavilion at the NYC event. Because of their generous sponsorship, there is a unique opportunity that exists for any of you that has a company or brand that have products or services that you want to market to the Podcasting community on the Expo Floor. If you are interested in reserving one of these kiosks at the NYC event, please email me at Cliff@PodcastAnswerMan.com and I’ll get you in touch with the right person.

Stand up Comedy Invades Podcasting!
Podcasting has changed the face of stand up comedy. It seems that every comic has a podcast. Why is that? Why is it important for comedians to reach out to a new audience once, maybe twice a week? We’ll talk to the biggest stand up broadcaster about why it’s been important to take their act out of the clubs and onto portable media devices.

004 The Podcast Report – The Virtual Ticket And Session Previews With Evo Terra

Author:

Hey everyone, Cliff Ravenscraft here. I’m back with another episode of The Podcast Report.

The Virtual Ticket
I start off this episode with an interview with Johnny B Truant who tells us about the Virtual Ticket option for BlogWorld & New Media Expo. The Virtual Ticket is a perfect standalone option for those who have decided that they will not be able to make it to NYC, this June, to attend the event.

The Virtual Ticket is also perfect, as an add-on option, for those who will be attending #BWENY this year, as there will be so many sessions happening simultaneously and you will only be able to be physically present at one session at a time. The Virtual Ticket allows you to catch all the sessions you missed just one week after the conference.

Five Session Previews With Evo Terra
Next up, I had the pleasure of interviewing Evo Terra from PodioBooks.com. Evo happens to be leading two panel sessions and sitting in as a panelist on three other sessions at #BWENY this year.

Here’s the list of sessions:
From Book To Podcast & Back Again
Podcasting For Creatives
The Real Speil – The Realistic Approach in Monetizing Your Podcast
Learn The Part of Podcast Narration
The State of Podcasting for 2012

I hope that you enjoy this podcast, that you will subscribe to it, and that you will tell every podcaster you know about it. Please leave me any comments or feedback that you have in the comments section below! I hope to see you at the event!

002 The Podcast Report – Benefits of Attending BWENY – Fan Podcasting – Podcast Interviews – And Making Money

Author:

Hey everyone, Cliff Ravenscraft here. I’m back with another episode of The Podcast Report.

The Schedule Is Online
I want to encourage you to have a look at the schedule for the podcasting track. Find the sessions that you want to attend and put them on your calendar. Please note that the dates, times, title, and descriptions are accurate. However, while we have filled all speaker spots with confirmed speakers, not all speakers are listed at this time. We add them to the session as they complete the required speaker agreement form.

How Would Attending BWENY Benefit Someone Who Has Been Podcasting For 5 Years?
This week, I answer a question from Ken who said that he’s never been to a conference like BlogWorld & New Media Expo before. He wanted to know how attending the show would benefit him as someone who has been podcasting for the past five years. Also, he wanted to know if he only had two days to choose from, which two days would be most beneficial to him. I answer these questions in the episode.

Session Highlights
Darrell Darnell from The Fringe Podcast and Golden Spiral Media joins me to talk about the session he’s putting together titled Tips and Techniques for Building a Successful Fan Podcast.

Rob Walch from Wizzard Media joins me to tell about the two sessions that he’s putting together for the BWENY podcasting Track.

Be sure to attend Rob’s sessions:
The 411 on Recording and Producing a Great Interview
The Multiple Ways To Make Money With Your Podcast

Update From Info Provided In Episode 001
Tim Bourquin, co-founder of the original Podcast Expo, posted a comment on show notes for the first episode of The Podcast Report. I shared this comment in the podcast and wanted to post it here as well.

Good show Cliff! Just to clarify one point Rick said, the blog post I wrote after the last Podcast Expo wasn’t about being discontent with the podccasting community – it was my frustration with the tradeshow business itself.

Rick’s comment makes it sound like I was discontented with podcasters. So I wanted to correct that.

Here’s the blog post I wrote. It is all about the business itself back in 2008- not podcasting.
http://www.tradeshowstartup.com/2008/08/19/5-reasons-why-im-thinking-about-quitting-the-tradeshow-business/

(Emile and I still have a membership podcast and keep in touch with many other podcasters. I never did quit the tradeshow business. I still consult on several shows I started and sold and I’m always thinking about new show ideas…)

I hope that you enjoy this podcast, that you will subscribe to it, and that you will tell every podcaster you know about it. Please leave me any comments or feedback that you have in the comments section below! I hope to see you at the event!

001 The Podcast Report – What Is BlogWorld & Where Does Podcasting Fit In?

Author:

Hey everyone, Cliff Ravenscraft here. Earlier this month, I accepted an offer to join the BlogWorld & New Media Expo team to help build an amazing Podcasting Track at the conference for the podcasting community.

I want to welcome you to the very first episode of The Podcast Report, a podcast devoted to the Podcasting Track of BlogWorld & New Media Expo. I thought the best way to promote the podcasting track for this conference would be through a podcast devoted to it. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Over the past several weeks, I have been on the phone, or Skype, with no less than 60 individual podcasters. I’ve heard many stories about the experiences people have had with the previous Podcasting Expo put on by the Bourquin Brothers. Many have also shared their thoughts on how things have gone since BlogWorld & New Media Expo purchased the rights of that conference.

In this inaugural episode of The Podcast Report, I interview Rick Calvert, CEO & Co-Founder of BlogWorld & New Media Expo. The purpose is to bring everyone up to speed on the history of the podcasting community and it’s industry conference. Below, I have listed some of the things that Rick and I discussed in this episode.

  • How did BlogWorld & New Media Expo get started?
  • History of the Bourquin Brothers Podcast Expo.
  • How and why BlogWorld purchased the Podcast Expo.
  • The rocky history of the Podcasting Track at BlogWorld & New Media Expo.
  • The debate over the term “Podcasting.”
  • The commitment to the Podcasting Community moving forward!
  • Major Announcement: Name Change Coming To BlogWorld!!!!

Future episodes of this podcast will help you get a feel for the type of sessions that are coming to #BWENY and I plan to produce an episode of The Podcast Report each week until the conference this June.

I hope that you enjoy this podcast, that you will subscribe to it, and that you will tell every podcaster you know about it. Please leave me any comments or feedback that you have in the comments section below! I hope to see you at the event!
