Tragedies occur every day and yesterday was no different except that one tragedy happened to a friend of ours. Tee Morris‘ wife passed away leaving Tee to be a single parent of a young daughter.
Tee was a speaker this year at BlogWorld & New Media Expo and was a great asset to our show. We would like top extend our condolences to Tee and his family for this loss. Tee is a great podcaster and is very knowledgeable in his field. He has written books on the subject and is a founder of Podiobooks.com. Tee’s friends are setting up a short term fund (sign in below using ChipIn) and a long term fund for helping him through these difficult times. His wife’s passing has left them with difficulties of paying bills and that is a stress that should not have to be endured on top of the already difficult loss.
Again, all of us here at BlogWorld & New Media Expo send our deepest sympathies to the family and hope that comfort can come from the community.
I had a chance to meet Shira Lazar in Hawaii at the So Much More Hawaii Tour this year. She is a rising star in the world of new media and I wish her the best. This is a video interview she did with Ben Huh out in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Both Shira and Ben spoke at BlogWorld & New Media Expo in 2009 and I am happy that they did this great interview.
I am hoping to get some of these interviews doen myself this year as we travel around to the events and talk with organizers, attendees and speakers at shows we are attending. Thanks to the folks at TechZulu and Amanda!
At the event this year in Las Vegas we transferred over from Blog Talk Radio to WS Radio for our regularly scheduled radio show Blog World Expo Radio. This was not because we wanted to leave Blog Talk Radio, we love the folks at Blog Talk Radio and they have been a participant at our event as an exhibitor and have helped us make our event successful. We moved the show to get a different look, feel and sound to Blog World Expo Radio.
We have quite a few shows in the archive now and I wanted to touch on those and talk about what we will be doing in the future with the show. Most recently we had on our show Wade Kwon who posted recently about his experience with BlogWorld & New Media Expo as a speaker. We reached out to Wade and wanted to get him on our show so we could discuss his complaints and acknowledge those as well as talk about how we are going to make it a better experience.
We also introduced Patti Hosking, our new Director of Business Development. Patti is not necessarily new but is someone that has been with the crew now since the beginning but has recently taken over the duties full time as the person in charge of exhibitors, and sponsors and other issues related to business development of the show. You can reach Patti by email at Patti at blogworldexpo dot com.
Our last show we had some real rock stars in the world of social media, Maggie Fox, CEO and founder of SocialMediaGroup.com and Jason Falls, the founder of Social Media Explorer. Jason was also our track leader for the Social Media Business Summit and was instrumental in how we made 2009 in the social media track awesome. He was a large part of why that was so beneficial to attendees. Maggie and Jason talk about some of the issues in the industry of events, and also talk about what we are seeing in the world of social media, and finally finish up with some thoughts into what we will see in 2010. I think you should all get over and read their blogs and definitely get a chance to listen to the show once the archive is posted.
As we approach 2010 and our new show in October, we will be interviewing speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and many others. We also plan to bring you live coverage from events like CES and SXSW and perhaps another show that is in your area. If you want to be a guest on our show feel free to leave a comment and what you want to talk about. We are going to have some cool guests in the future and you could be one of those. Coming up in January we will have Richard Jalichandra, CEO of Technorati and we look forward to what Richard will tell us about the future of blogging and about his company Technorati. Join me next week as we take a look back at 2009, what we did here at BlogWorld & New Media Expo and what we plan to do for 2010.
Our new identity this year is to also be the trade show for not just the blogging world, but after our merger with the podcasting and video world of the New Media Expo in 2008, we want to include the podcasters as well.
We have been trying to find ways to allow our podcasters that will be attending our event not to miss a beat and to be allowed to record their own podcasts on the show floor “live”. We have accomplished that this year with the folks at Podcast Tuneup who are bringing some university students and with Kris Smith of Palegroove Studios. We are setting up 4 separate podcasting stations where you as a podcaster can set up a time to record your own session live from BlogWorld & New Media Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. You wont have to miss a beat and can do your own shows and get them up on your own site.
We are scheduling 30 minutes at a time and if you need more than 30 minutes just let us know so we can accommodate your schedule. We will have staff and equipment ready for you to use beginning Friday morning when the show begins and ending on Saturday when the exhibit floor closes. Set up your time to record live from the Exhibit Floor! You can sign up in the form provided, or you can contact Kris Smith at 646.657.8484, to schedule your time. Kris is also available to handle you technical questions and any information you need to get your podcast recorded, uploaded and broadcast to your community!
If you want to tell all of your fans that you will be broadcasting live from BlogWorld & New Media Expo, now is your chance. They can watch you conduct your show, participate as guests or how ever it makes sense for you! It’s your show!
If you have not seen this video of Chad Vader now is a good time to check it out. We have had quite a chuckle here watching and sending it out via Twitter. Our special thanks to Matt Sloan and Aaron Yonda for their hard work in putting it together and allowing us to have a bit of fun. You can see their session on YouTube Success on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. If you have not yet registered to be a part of the event, I will send Chad to your house and break your Internet!
It has been a long road or journey, one that I might pack for differently given what I know now, but a journey that has been fun. I first agreed to help work this conference as far back as 2006 when I first met Rick Calvert in Seattle at a blogging conference. I have seen our BlogWorld & New Media Expo go from an idea to one of the largest, if not THE largest conferences in this industry. I am very thankful for the opportunity to have worked in the capacity of Conference Chairman this year, putting together the lineup. I have some big shoes to fill with Dave Taylor having done this in previous events. It has been a number of 20 hour days and lots of phone calls and meetings and emails and tweets and pony express riders to get to this day but we are finally here.
The speaker “grid” as we like to call it has been posted and we will be discussing it at length today on Blog World Expo Radio on Blog Talk Radio. My guest on the show will be Rob Walch, the brains behind the podcasting and video tracks. The tracks Rob worked on were very important because they are a culmination of experts that will be representing our first blending of New Media Expo and BlogWorld& New Media Expo. As you may remember, we acquired that event that was similar in nature to ours and that announcement was made back in December of 2008. We hope that the lineup we have for this year will be as great as the podcasting and videocasting world has come to expect from that event.
Feel free to give us feedback on the lineup thus far. As you can see with its current state it is a living and breathing document. Believe me when I say I have tried numerous times to beat it into submission and make it behave, and most of the time it has beat me back. There are some tracks that we have yet to put into the system and some that are still be worked on and probably the most difficult items are yet to be completed, the keynotes for the event. I can assure you those will be dynamite!
Thank you for your patience, especially to all of the hundreds, of people that made submissions for sessions or presentations. It was very difficult to choose from the number of presentations. We did not have any difficulty in getting quality speakers from the many that submitted. I would urge you to get your ticket and register for this group of fine presentations. The speakers and experts we have assembled will allow you to justify spending some time in Las Vegas, October 15-17, 2009.
In case you haven’t noticed, I wanted to introduce you to a couple of new bloggers here on our site that will be providing some content. I want to introduce you to Jane Goodwin and Tyler Knott Gregson. Jane and Tyler are prolific bloggers and will be talking about all things blogging and new media. They will be discussing industry news and what is happening in the world of blogging. They will talk about the upcoming show a little and also be talking about what is going on in the world of technology. Feel free to talk to them and tell them what you think and to also let them know what you want them to post about and other information. Welcome to Blog World Jane and Tyler!
Rick Calvert, Dave Cynkin and I will be in Austin, Texas next week attending Spring Break For Geeks or more commonly known to many as a SXSW Interactive. We will be setting up shop at the Techset Blogger Lounge Sponsored by Windows Mobile and organized by Stephanie Agresta and Brian Solis. We did our radio show yesterday on the trip we are taking and talked about all things SXSW with Tammy Lynn Gilmore and Brian and Stephanie and I invite you to listen in on that show but listening to the widget on the right under Blog Talk Radio. We will be doing the show live from SXSW and giving you the on scene experience of attending the Blogger Lounge and about all the people that are there participating. It will be the next best thing to paying for a pass and attending the event yourself. Join us as we head to Texas for some Yee Haw!
Today we will be kicking off our radio show that we have been doing using the Blog Talk Radio application. Join us today as we get geared up for the rush to the 2009 Blog World and New Media Expo in Las Vegas. I’ll be discussing the initial things we have seen since the show and talking about what has occurred, what will occur and can talk about the latest news in the blogosphere. We expect to have our show each Friday at Noon Pacific Time to make sure to get it on your calendar.
