Today we’re profiling Shawn Collins. Shawn along with his Affiliate Summit partner, Missy Ward are presenting “Monetizing Your Blog Using Affiliate Marketing” at NMX on Monday, April 13 at 1:45 p.m.

1. Without repeating your online bio word for word, tell the NMX community who you are and why you’re so good at what you do.

I’ve been an affiliate marketer since 1997. Some might call me a dinosaur, but I prefer to say that I am a veteran or early adopter. Back then, it was such uncharted territory, and there were no blogs, podcasts, videos, newsletters, or events. We had to make it up as we went along. After a few years of being an affiliate and an affiliate manager, as well as writing on affiliate marketing for ClickZ, I got a book deal to write how to manager an affiliate program. That book, “Successful Affiliate Marketing for Merchants” is way outdated now (it came out in 2001), but it was a chronicle of the ways I made up to start and manage an affiliate program. In 2003, I partnered up with Missy Ward to start the Affiliate Summit conference. It didn’t really make any sense, because we were both broke and clueless about events, but we made it happen with passion and patience. What started as a very small investment (the cost of the affiliatesummit.com domain) has grown to be the largest affiliate marketing tradeshow in the world.

2. What are you speaking about at NMX? Why is this an important topic?

Missy Ward and I will be discussing the best kind of affiliate programs for bloggers, how to figure out what their visitors want to buy, and the most effective implementation strategies. Then, we will do some live site reviews to give candid advice to bloggers in the audience. This session will be very timely, because there is a big shift of bloggers from the old sponsorship model to performance marketing, and it’s a topic that many bloggers are anxious to learn more about.

3. Who are you most looking forward to see speak at NMX and why?

So many of the breakouts look great, but I’m most excited about Dennis Miller. I’ve loved his stuff dating back to SNL and I saw him in concert in either the late 80s or early 90s when I was in college. I’ve enjoyed his work and brand of comedy ever since then.

4. Beyond work…what is your passion?

I really enjoy writing. I get to indulge that side of me to a degree with my work, but I prefer fiction writing. I am currently about 30,000 words in on the next “Great American Novel”. Before I got into marketing, and even before I had any sort of paying job, I really wanted to be a writer. I knocked on lots of doors in NYC in the 90s and the only paying gig I ever got was to write one piece for the New York Press, which was an alternative to the Village Voice back then. I earned $100, so I guess that makes me a professional writer. Well, I have written business books, too, and we just wrapped the 30th issue of our magazine, FeedFront. I’ve been writing for school newspapers, zines, ezines, magazines, websites, etc. since elementary school. Yeah, writing is my passion.

5. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

Back when current U.S. Senator Cory Booker ran for Mayor of Newark, NJ for the first time in 2002, I ran his website for him. We were introduced by a mutual friend, and I offered up the right combination of site design and marketing, as well as a low rate (free). The was the campaign featured in the Oscar nominated documentary, “Street Fight.” It was a fascinating experience that convinced me I’d never want to work in politics.

NMX Speaker Profile: 5 Questions With Tom Webster

Tom Webster

Deb’s note: I met Tom Webster in 2008 when I was the Community Manager for BlogTalkRadio and we had a booth at BlogWorld ’08. Tom had dinner with the BTR team, and I was impressed not only by his dry sense of humor – he kept us laughing throughout the meal – but also by his passion for data and numbers especially as they apply to podcasting. I’ve seen Tom every year at BlogWorld/NMX – as he is always brought back as a speaker – and he still has that same passion for what he does.

Tom is giving a Super Session, “Podcasting: The Next 10 Years” at NMX on Monday, April 13th at 1:45 p.m. in Ballroom D.

And now, Tom answers our five questions.

1. Without repeating your online bio word for word, tell the NMX community who you are and why you’re so good at what you do.

I’m the Vice President of Strategy for Edison Research, and in that role I’ve been covering consumer usage of new media for over a decade. I’ve been reporting on adoption and behaviors around Social Media, Podcasting, Blogging and more for the NMX (and Blogworld…and Podcast Expo…) audience since the beginning. And I’m good at what I do because my team at Edison is AWESOME at what they do, which gives me the confidence to report our numbers.

2. What are you speaking about at NMX? Why is this an important topic?

We have been tracking podcasting for 10 years now, so I plan to give attendees a retrospective of where the medium has been, where it is now, and where I think it is going. It’s an important topic, because after being in audience research for 20 years, I can tell you that what got us here as podcasters, is not going to get us there. I want to help get us there.

3. Who are you most looking forward to see speak at NMX and why?

Norm Pattiz. We’ve worked with Norm at Edison on various initiatives for over a decade, and he is fearless, relentless, and absolutely passionate about pushing podcasting forward. We’ve all got a lot to learn from him.

4. Beyond work…what is your passion?

Things I am passionate about: Magic (especially mentalism—I’m fascinated by that), a good quality martini, and more time with by beautiful wife, Tamsen.

5. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

At this point, I don’t know that I have many things that would surprise people 🙂 But I’ll go with this: I used to teach English. I still speak it regularly.

6. Bonus! You were given a discount code to share with your online community. Share your code here and tell potential attendees why they should attend NMX!

I can’t seem to find my code….but I think if you’ve ever stared at a blank screen or a microphone and wondered what to blog about, write about, or speak about—come to NMX. I leave with dozens of ideas every year. (Tom’s discount code is TWebster20, use it to register for NMX and receive $100 off current pricing. – Deb )

NMX Speaker Profile: 5 Questions With Lynette Young

Author:

Last year, Lynette Young set the tone for an awesome event by opening NMX 2014. This year Lynette’s returned to co-present a breakout session with her friend, Hunter Boyle. What follows is a brief Q & A with our good friend, NMX speaker and superfan, Lynette Young.

1. Without repeating your online bio word for word, tell the NMX community who you are and why you're so good at what you do.

Simply put, I work with people (who sometimes work at companies and sometimes work for themselves) to make a positive impact and grow their brand and business profitably online. My background varies from technology to boutique retail shop owner. Everything I’ve done to date has added to skillset I bring my clients in the consultancy and coaching work I do now.

2. What are you speaking about at NMX? Why is this an important topi

c?
My talk “You Want A Raving Fan Base? Here’s How The All-Stars Do It… And You Can, Too!” is actually being co-presented with Hunter Boyle. Coming off of my NMX keynote last year “The Myth of the Overnight Success: How to Build an Iceberg in 25 Years or Less,” I have had many requests to show how to systematically learn from the success of “A-Listers” in the digital marketing industry. Why reinvent the wheel? During this talk Hunter and I will show attendees how to reverse engineer what it takes to become top of your game in this crazy industry we work in. This is the type of industry where we can all learn from each other and help each other succeed. Hunter and I fully intend to share what we and others have road-tested to work!

3. Who are you most looking forward to see speak at NMX and why?

The list is LONG. It would be easier to just point to the complete speaker list! Chris Ducker. CecilyKellogg. Marcy Massura. Missy Ward. Joel Comm. Pat Flynn. Cliff Ravenscraft. Jason Falls. C.C. Chapman. Elsie Escobar. Mignon Fogarty. And of course Rick and Dave!!

4. Beyond work...what is your passion?

I’m working to become the daydream I have in my head: “traveling to exotic locations as a well-paid, quirky vintage-inspired lifestyle, beauty and fashion vlogger.” My personal and professional passions have been painfully separated for as long as I can remember and it’s about time that changed! In all seriousness, I love to travel and have started working to make that happen more.

5. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

— That in person I’m funny. Or at least that is what people tell me. It always takes me by surprise because there really is no difference in how I portray myself online vs. offline.

6. Bonus! You were given a discount code to share with your online community. Share your code here and tell potential attendees why they should attend NMX!

 Code: lyoung20
For all the years I’ve been attending New Media Expo I’ve seen the event change attendee’s business and lives. I feel that if you are serious about succeeding using digital media you need to learn from the best – and that is who attends NMX!
Lynnette’s co-presentation with Hunter Boyle is called “You Want A Raving Fan Base? Here’s How The All-Stars Do It (And You Can, Too),” and it’s happening on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 2:15. Register today!

NMX Speaker Spotlight: 5 With Questions Cecily Kellogg

Author:
Cecily Kellogg

Cecily Kellogg

This isn’t Cecily Kellogg’s first rodeo at NMX speaker. In 2011, Cecily was a panelist at BlogWorld Los Angeles. Since then, she’s moved on from parent blogging to build a successful career as content marketer, which is what she’ll be talking about at NMX ’15 in April.

Behold today’s speaker spotlight.

5 Questions with Cecily Kellogg

1. Without repeating your online bio word for word, tell the NMX community who you are and why you're so good at what you do.

It wouldn’t seem like a poet would end up in content marketing, but that’s what happened to me. It turns out my years as a poet were great training for content creation. I learned how to say a lot with just a few words, a skill that has helped me craft content that people actually read. After achieving a small measure of success with my personal blog I became a full time writer in 2007, and today I run a small agency that provides marketing and written content to a variety of clients.

2. What are you speaking about at NMX? Why is this an important topic?

At NMX I’ll be talking about creating a content marketing strategy for your blog. Businesses are required to establish specific goals for their content.  The determine what a conversion will be, they use old school sales techniques, and they require content to produce results. Bloggers can benefit from this same approach, even if a “conversion” for them is something as simple as leaving a comment or sharing a post. I’ll be teaching bloggers how to integrate a business-style content strategy to grow their blog and help them find success – while staying true to their blog’s heart.

3. Who are you most looking forward to see speak at NMX and why?

I’m really excited about seeing some favorite folks speak such as C.C. Chapman, Lynette Young, Jason Falls, Missy Ward, and Kelby Carr. But I’m also really looking forward to hearing Marcy Massura and Maggie Patterson, women I admire but haven’t heard speak yet.

4. Beyond work...what is your passion?

Outside of work, I find joy in my family. My daughter is a budding rock star, plays junior roller derby, and has helped me reconnect with my inner artist. My husband makes me laugh and is the most amazing writer. When the weather doesn’t suck, I love exploring and hiking in the woods.

5. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

When people meet me, I think they are surprised to realize I’m not all that tough. I’m also really super short, which shocks people, and fatter than my carefully taken photos suggest. 🙂
Are you looking forward to seeing Cecily speak as much as we are? Register today!

NMX Speaker Profile: 5 Questions With Ben Greenfield

Author:
Ben Greenfield

Ben Greenfield

In order to highlight NMX ’15 speakers and sessions, we sent each speaker a list of 5 questions so you can learn a little more about them.

Each speaker is asked the same five questions, but as you’ll see as we feature each different speaker, the answers couldn’t be more different.

Today we’re pleased to present 5 Questions with Ben Greenfield:

1. Without repeating your online bio word for word, tell the NMX community who you are and why you're so good at what you do.

As an author, consultant and speaker, I teach people how to achieve superhuman health, longevity, weight loss, lean muscle gain, holistic wellness, and peak performance. My understanding of functional exercise, nutrition, and the delicate balance between performance and health has helped thousands of people around the world achieve their goals and improve their quality of life. My goal in life is to make healthy living inspiring, entertaining and educational, and my “rebel yell” goes like this…

…I love getting fit, feeling good about the way my body looks, and fulfilling my deep-seeded drive to live life to the fullest by achieving difficult feats of physical performance. But I was fed up with feeling like crap from all the extreme exercising, strange foods, feeling of constant stress and soreness, and worry about the toll my hectic lifestyle was taking on my body. So I have found a way of training, eating and living that is perfectly healthy and natural, but still allows me to look, feel and perform at my peak capabilities….

I am currently the founder and owner of Greenfield Fitness Systems, a company that develops innovative and cutting-edge fitness and nutrition services and solutions to help people reach their physical and mental performance goals, whether that be to defy aging and achieve longevity, cross the finish line of an Ironman triathlon, or simply shed a few pounds.

2. What are you speaking about at NMX? Why is this an important topic?

Over the past decade, I’ve built a passionate and responsive audience who tends to “hang on every word I say”. Without ever appearing on Oprah or Dr. Oz, or getting any other big lucky breaks, I’m literally managed to turn myself into a globally recognized fitness expert. I’m not saying this to brag, but rather to alert you to the fact that you too can become a trust expert in your field (with a big following) if you implement the strategies I’ll teach you at NMX. We’ll cover everything from podcasting to content creation to fan interaction, and I’ll give you every tip and trick I know and use!

3. Who are you most looking forward to see speak at NMX and why?

Adam Corolla. He’s funny. He’s kind of weird too. He podcasts. What more could you ask for? He’s sure to be entertaining.

4. Beyond work...what is your passion?

Besides dark chocolate? My twin boys, River and Terran Greenfield. It’s an amazing and breathtaking sense of responsibility to know that you can shape little lives who can grow up to make this world a better place.

5. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I grew up as a complete geek – programming computers, playing the violin, writing fantasy novels, and as president of the chess club. I’m still an extreme introvert and I get supercharged by being by myself, strumming on a guitar or walking in the forest!

6. Bonus! You were given a discount code to share with your online community. Share your code here and tell potential attendees why they should attend NMX!

If you’re ready to finally take the next step and begin creating content that makes you happy, makes you money and changes the world, then you need to be at New Media Expo. Need a little extra incentive? You can use code “bgreenfield20” to get 20% off the current pricing. See you there – and remember – what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

NMX Speaker Spotlight: 5 Questions for Jason Falls

Author:

jason.falls.2015.nmx

Jason Falls

In order to highlight NMX ’15 speakers and sessions, we sent each speaker a questionnaire so we could feature them here. Each speaker is asked the same five questions, but as you’ll see as we feature each different speaker, the answers couldn’t be more different.

It should come as no surprise that the first speaker to send back responses to his five questions was Jason Falls. Jason has spoken at NMX several times in the past and never fails to deliver. He’s a true professional and one of our favorite people to work with.

1. Without repeating your online bio word for word, tell the NMX community who you are and why you're so good at what you do.

Jason Falls was born at an early age. He stepped in raw toner as a child and began pooping photocopies. Fortunately, they were instructions on blogging and he could read. (Talented lad.) By day he advises clients on digital marketing and public relations. It’s a cover for his night job — thwarting criminals using his mysterious super power of asking questions about their misspent youth that drive them to repent and turn themselves in. He calls  himself the Fink Shrink. He looks good in plaid, but won’t admit it. Goats give him the heebie jeebies. Why wouldn’t you come to a session with someone who writes his bio in the third person?

2. What are you speaking about at NMX? Why is this an important topic?

Social media has created a sea of noise and very little signal. Consumers still mostly rely on traditional media sources for news and entertainment. New media producers are making a dent, but aren’t nearly as big a deal as they think they are. I’m going to look at the media landscape and offer some ideas on where it’s going, how we can stake more of a claim and what it’s going to take for new media producers to continue to grow in relevance and revenue. If you don’t want to be relevant or make money, don’t come to my session. 😉

3. Who are you most looking forward to see speak at NMX and why?

I have yet to hear Tom Webster speak and not learn a ton of stuff. But I’m also excited to see Cosmo Scharf. Because his name is Cosmo Scharf.

4. Beyond work...what is your passion?

Am I allowed to say hallucinogenics? Okay, then I’ll say humor. I was starved for attention as a child, so performing is in my blood and making people laugh makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Unfortunately, I mostly offend people, but every now and then I get it right and make all the failures worth it.

5. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I saved a guy’s life once. I was young and foolish. It won’t happen again.

6. Bonus! You were given a discount code to share with your online community. Share your code here and tell potential attendees why they should attend NMX!

I think my code is JFALLS20. Or maybe it’s JFALLS10. Or JFALLS50. Try 50 and see if you get 50 percent off. That would be wicked cool and piss Rick off. Heh.
Deb’s note: It’s JFalls20. You can try the others but they won’t work. Rick won’t have a clue if you want to try it anyway.

NMX: You’re Right, It’s Not the Same

Author:

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 5.02.15 PM

I recently took a short break from working as Conference Director and Community Manager for NMX. The reasons for the break aren’t as important as the reasons I returned – because as a content creator I believe in this conference, what it stands for, and the creative people who make up the NMX team and community. I returned for them, I returned for you, and, yes, I returned for me.

During the time I was away, I received a lot of feedback about NMX. Most of the feedback was positive with a “but” thrown in. “But it’s not the same,” as when it began in 2007.

No, NMX isn’t the same, and that is a good thing!?

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 5.02.38 PM

New Media and online content creation have evolved and we have to evolve with it. We can’t stay the same. “Same” is boring. ‘”Same” is a failure to adapt. Why would anyone want to go to the same conference over and over again, particularly in a new media world that is constantly changing?

NMX is not the same because our attendees aren’t the same, nor is our focus. When BlogWorld & New Media Expo was first announced in July of 2006 no one had ever heard of Twitter because it wasn’t public yet. Myspace was the big social network and of course Instagram, Google + Pinterest, Snapchat and others were years away from coming to life.

In 2007 bloggers dominated NMX and the mainstream news. We were known as “BlogWorld.” Heck, I still call it BlogWorld…but we were always much more than that. From the very beginning we were talking about podcasting, web video and social media. All forms of content creation were represented in the exhibit hall and the conference.

From the very beginning Rick told me and anyone else who would listen that podcasting and video were going to eventually become huge parts of the show and the corporate marketers and PR pros would fade back into the PRSA’s and marketing worlds they came from. Over the years we evolved and our community of attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors evolved with us. The one thing that remains constant is that NMX exists to serve content creators. So, no. We’re not the same.

Many online brands that are popular today launched at BlogWorld, including a couple of now-popular social media events. Many of the successful (and Internet famous) content creators and social media professionals you look up to today made a name for themselves speaking at BlogWorld/NMX.

Nothing makes us happier than to know we had a part of in someone’s success. If everything stayed the same, we couldn’t continue to introduce new people, products, and services so we can help them succeed as well. Of Course NMX is different now. We hope to always be different, because our attendees are too interesting and creative to be interested in the “same.”

We’re a different conference because our focus is different

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 5.03.37 PM

We hear NMX described as a “blogging conference,” “tech conference,” “podcasting conference,” “social media conference,” or “content marketing conference.” The truth is, we’re none of the above and we never were. Social Media Marketing and Content Marketing weren’t even buzzwords when NMX was born.

  • We’re not a blogging conference because we cover all aspects of online content creation. Blogging is very important and will always have a huge spotlight at NMX. Back in 2010 one of our favorite speakers Lee Odden has explained it this way Blogs are the hub of social media and everything else makes up the spokes. If you just change the word blog to content you have an perfect description of how we view the world of new media. NMX is about all content on the web.
  • We’re not a podcasting conference, either. Like blogging, podcasting has an important focus at NMX, but our sessions for content creators go far beyond podcasting. We see podcasting as one of the three critical legs of the new media chair; blogging, podcasting and web video. They are inextricably linked – particularly for any independent content creator who is trying to compete and succeed in a world full of content.
  • We’re not a tech conference. Our community is tech-savvy for sure. They enjoy gadgets, wearable technology and keep up with all the latest tech news. They are definitely “early adopters”. However, while technology plays an important part in our event, and while our attendees love to see our exhibitors and sponsors who are technology-based, technology is not our primary focus. If you rely on the latest technology to create, distribute, consume and monetize your content you will find it at NMX.
  • We are not a social media conference. Social media plays an important part in content creation, but social isn’t who we are or what we are about – Social media makes up the spokes we use to bring our audience to our content.

NMX really isn’t difficult to pinpoint or nail down. We are a conference for new media content creators. If you blog, podcast, create web video, or take beautiful photographs, you belong at NMX.

We’re a different conference because we keep it affordable

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 5.04.08 PM

We understand that many members of our community are independent content creators, which means they are in business for themselves, or that their employers don’t have the budget to send them. That’s why we do everything we can to keep NMX affordable. That means we can’t pay tens of thousands of dollars to bring in A-list celebrities. Every big name speaker you have ever seen at NMX is there because they love new media as much as you do.  We don’t focus on shock and awe, we focus on smart people sharing smart ideas.

We hope you agree that meeting people at a table in the new media lounge is far more beneficial than yelling at someone over loud music.

We’re a different conference because we don’t mind if you share

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 5.08.53 PM

If you look at YouTube, Flickr, SlideShare, Instagram and other platforms you’ll see hundreds of past NMX sessions, and we don’t mind. We like to think of NMX as the Grateful Dead of conferences. We don’t mind when attendees take video or audio at our sessions and keynotes. We encourage it, because that means more exposure for our speakers and our event. That is the new media way. Besides, it’s a great way to share some knowledge with our friends who couldn’t be there. As a conference for content creators it would be pretty lame if we encouraged everyone to create and share their content far and wide except from our event.

We’re different because it’s not about what you have to sell, but what you have to teach

Screen Shot 2015-01-27 at 5.08.23 PM

If you want to speak at NMX you have to have a better reason than “I wrote a book” or “I want people to learn about my product or service.” One thing we take seriously is that there is no selling from the podium. On the extremely rare occasions a sales person gets through, you can bet that person will never be back. In fact, we have an agreement with NMX attendees – if anyone gets up and starts selling during a presentation, you can heckle them all you want. Selling is for the Expo hall, not our sessions.

We’re a different conference because we value knowledge and passion over influence

When we look for people to speak at NMX, we’re looking for teachers and story tellers, not “influencers” or self appointed “experts.” For us, knowledge, passion, and creativity trumps influence every time.

Many of the well known speakers you see on the speaking circuit today  got their start at NMX. We’re proud to say we knew they were smart before they became famous for being smart. So we’re happy to introduce some speakers you might not be familiar with, because nothing makes us prouder than to watch them launch amazing careers from the NMX stage.

Now, this isn’t to say we don’t value influence because we do. However, if we do bring in someone with a well known name you can bet your bottom dollar it’s because we felt they had something important to teach – not because we thought they might put butts in the seats.

There Is No Other Event Like NMX.

When Rick first had the idea for NMX it was because he had been searching for an event like it for months and it didn’t exist. He wanted to attend an event full of bloggers, podcasters and web video creators just like him. He wanted to learn from them, meet people who were as passionate about new media who he was and who he didn’t have to explain what a blog was. No one understands that more than me.

When I attended the first BlogWorld 2007, I was very shy and had never traveled by myself anywhere, but I took a brave, big step and flew to Las Vegas because I felt the same passion for blogging that Rick did. When he spoke about his passion and his need for this conference, I got it. Sometimes I feel as if some of the people in my life don’t understand why I am so passionate about NMX, but I can truly say that everyone at NMX from the speakers to the attendees are MY people. I am so happy to be here. I can geek out about blogging to my heart’s content and no one thinks I’m weird.

Over the years the buzz words have changed but no other event has even come close to creating what NMX is. Do you remember when Twitter first came on the scene? Several Twitter conferences popped up overnight. People told us we should change the name to TwitterWorld. We stuck to our vision and our core belief that blogging, podcasting and web video were born to be together and that they all depend on each other. We still believe that today.

Why should you attend NMX if it’s so different?

Let’s break it down:

  • Familiar faces, but not the same old, same old: You’ll meet both old and new friends at NMX, but it’s never the same thing each year.
  • Affordability: We do everything we can to keep NMX affordable for our attendees.
  • Networking: You won’t meet any brighter or more creative people than those who are attending NMX. You will find opportunities all around you.
  • Sponsors and exhibitors: Our sales team works hard to hand pick sponsors and exhibitors who best represent our mission and our responsibility to all online content creators. Whether it’s the tools and technology you need to succeed as a content creator, or in life itself, there’s ROI for everyone at NMX.
  • Attendees who are invested in the experience: Most attendees at NMX pay for their passes out of their own pockets rather than have costs covered by an employer. This means they’re more invested in the experience, and are 100% focused on learning and networking.
  • Red carpet events: All Content Creator and VIP pass holders are invited to attend the 10th Annual Podcast Awards and 4th IAWTV Annual IAWTV Awards and red carpet events.
  • Parties, mixers, and other networking events: Rub elbows with well known content creators as well as creative up and comers.
  • People who want to work with content creators: Many brands are looking to hire content creators, and they’re coming to NMX.
  • Blogging Lifetime Achievement Award: In which we will present an award to someone who has really made a mark in the world of blogging.
  • People who are looking to grow their online presence: Are you looking to up your game and grow traffic and boost your online presence? You’ll learn how at NMX!

Surprises in store…

I’m not at liberty to divulge any secrets about our opening keynote. Suffice  it to say it will be like nothing you’ve seen before at NMX or any other recent conference. Once photos and videos are shared online, you’ll want to make sure everyone knew you were there.

I’ll tell you this –  where we’re going, we won’t need roads.

One million stories at NMX…and none of them are the same

There are one million stories at NMX…which story will you tell?

Nominations for the 10th Annual Podcast Awards Open January 19th

The 10th Annual Podcast Awards are being held in Las Vegas at New Media Expo.  Each year podcast audiences nominate and vote for their favorite shows. Both the nominating and voting are done over a period of time. Multiple days of nominations and voting means a podcaster with a small engaged audience can have just as many votes as a show with a large audience (but little engagement). It’s not about downloads – it’s about connection, engagement, and influence.

Nominations close February 2nd.

If you look at the past winners of the People’s Choice award, you will see a the Fantasy Football podcast (from ESPN) taking home the prize.Keith and the Girl (a comedy podcast started in their apartment) took home the award in 2007.

Here is a quick overview how your show can be nominated:

There will be approximately a 10-14 day period in which New Media Expo will review all of the nominations. The review process will include the following:

  • Verification Podcast fits in Category Nominated
  • Verification that the Podcast has 10 Shows Produced
  • Verification the Podcaster has been creating shows on or before January 1st 2015
  • Verification that the Podcaster has a visible RSS 2.0 feed with Enclosures on his home page.
  • A confidential non-releasable grading sheet has been created, nominated podcast will be graded:
  • Number of Nominations 40%
  • Quality of Website Design 15%
  • Quality of Sound 15%
  • Quality of Podcast Delivery and Show Format 10%
  • Relevance of Content 20%

Nominations are open from January 19th through February 2nd.

The top 10 finalists in each category will be announced on February 23rd.

Once the top 10 nominees in each category are selected by the review committee and added to the website, the final voting will commence.

Voting will be open for 15 days ending on March 10th. Every member of the audience can vote once a day. A verification e-mail with a clickable link will be e-mailed to you so that you will have to verify the vote.
