Pinspiration Saturday: Representing Your Brand with Scott Stratten

Author:

We’re back for another Pinspiration Saturday, our weekly series where we highlight a quote from one of our amazing speakers every week. If that quote resonates with you, we hope you’ll take a minute to share the “pinspiration” with your followers on Pinterest by pinning it! And as always, you can also share via Facebook, Google+, Twitter, or any of your favorite social networks.

Your brand is what you do after two drinks

There is a now-infamous picture of Scott Stratten pole-dancing in Las Vegas. It was during an event after-party to celebrate his latest book, and after a few drinks, he hopped on stage for some silliness. Luckily, being a little silly fits in well with Scott’s personal brand, because in about a millisecond, everyone at the party had pulled out a camera phone to take pictures. Those pictures were on the Internet before Scott even got off stage.

Now imaging if Scott worked for a brand like Disney. Pictures of him on a stripper pole at a company after-party wouldn’t be funny anymore. It would be face-palm-inducing.

In this episode of TheVegas30 Podcast (embedded above or click to watch), Scott talks about how important it is to realize that you’re always representing your employer. Says Scott, “Your brand is what you do after two drinks.” And he’s right. If you can’t control yourself and act professionally at conferences and other work-sponsored events, don’t have that second drink.

That’s not to say you can’t have fun! At NMX, we have a ton of fun, and there’s always plenty of alcohol to go around at our networking parties. If you’re there to make connections and grow your business, though, keep in mind that a first impression is lasting. Have a good time, but make sure you keep your professional goals in mind when you’re tempted to do shots at the bar or jump on stage to dance.

Scott also give a shout-out to NMX CEO Rick Calvert and talks about what it takes to put together a conference, in this episode, so this is definitely a podcast you don’t want to miss. Check it out, and don’t forget to follow Scott on Twitter at @unmarketing and give a listen to his other podcast, the UnPodcast. He’s going to be keynoting in January, so if you don’t have your ticket to NMX yet, get it now!

You are what you think

Did you know that we’re at the best point in human history for going on adventures? If something is holding you back, you need to check out this post from Paul Pant at Afford Anything. As always, Paula is spot on with her advice about fear.

Every entrepreneur has doubts. You might not think that fear is what is holding you back in life, but for most of us, the road blocks in our life are actually caused by our own insecurities. We focus on the negative what-ifs, when we should be looking at all the possibilities in life.

Are you letting fear dictate the decisions you’re making about your content?

If you enjoyed Paula’s post about facing your fears, make sure you catch her presentation at NMX 2014. She’ll be speaking about the Art of Jaw-Dropping Content in our blogging track. Check out Paula’s full profile here to learn more about her and her session.

Pinspiration Saturday: Time for Podcasting with Daniel J. Lewis

It's how you use your time

Today’s quote comes from Daniel J. Lewis who recently devoted an episode of The Audacity to Podcast to one of my favorite topics: time management.

In this episode, Daniel starts by mentioning the fact that we all start every day with the same amount of hours. Rich or poor, tall or short, male or female, we all get 24 hours per day. Your success with your content, and in life in general, depends on how you choose to use those 24 hours.

The rest of this episode is filled with awesome tips about making enough time to podcast. And really, most of his tips can apply to any task you are trying to accomplish. We could all use a little more time with our families, a little more time for passion projects, and a little more time for happiness. So check out Daniel’s podcast for more tips on making time for whatever you need to get done in your life.

Also, did you know that Daniel will be speaking in the podcasting track at NMX? Check out his bio and the rest of the speakers on the NMX 2014 Podcasting Spotlight page! Don’t forget to pick up a ticket to the show to attend Daniels’ session live.

Pinspiration Saturday: Focusing with Cynthia Sanchez

Author:

It’s Pinspiration Saturday here on the NMX blog! Every week, we feature a quote from one of our amazing speakers – and if it is something that speaks to you, we hope you’ll take a minute to pin it to inspire your Pinterest followers as well! (Of course, you can also share via Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or any of your favorite social networks.)

Focus on the needs of the people you're trying to reach

Today is our first every Pinspiration Saturday, and who better to feature than Cynthia Sanchez from Oh So Pinteresting? On one of her recent podcasts with Lisa Irby, she made a comment that resonated with me about focusing on the needs of your target market.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in sharing cool stuff, but you’re often better served by focusing on your niche as much as possible.

Whether you’re a content creator or social business leader, this applies to you! Are you serving the people you’re trying to reach with the content you’re sharing? If you become a content curation powerhouse in a certain field, you’ll more easily gain the status of “expert,” which leads to more sales, more traffic, and more social shares!

Thanks, Cynthia, for the Pinspiration! And remember, you can see Cynthia live on stage from NMX 2014! If you’re not registered yet, click here to join the revolution.
