Ride the NMX Twitter Tsunami to Discounts and Free Stuff

Author:

At New Media Expo we like to do things big. We like to make waves and blow things up. As you can imagine, this can be a dangerous hobby, so we’re going to do it virtually.

Designed to blow up the #NMX hashtag with a wave of Tweets, we’re hosting a Twitter Tsunami to drive awareness to our new BusinessNext Social conference, which is accessible with the NMX full access pass.

You probably have some questions. In fact, in the spirit of saving time, we took the liberty of tapping into our psychic powers and asking those questions for you.

  • What is a Twitter Tsunami? A Twitter Tsunami is a wave of tweets from the NMX/BlogWorld community.
  • When is all this going down? Wednesday, December 5th. All day!
  • What’s in it for me?: When you tweet using the #NMX  hashtag during the Twitter Tsunami you will receive a discount code for 20% off the cost of your ticket. If you already have a ticket, we’ll give you 20% off the cost of next year’s ticket.
  • Aren’t you going to throw in something bigger for extra incentive? Why not! When you participate in the Twitter Tsunami using one of  the “Tweet and Get It” options on the Twitter Tsunami home page (will be live on Wednesday, December 5), you may have a chance at winning a surprise. For example we’re giving away at least one free pass per hour. Some hours we may give away more. We’re giving away a variety of different types of passes too – Full Access, Content Creator and Exhibits Only. You don’t know unless you tweet.
  • What if I’m already registered for NMX?Unfortunately we can’t issue refunds. If you can’t use your discount or free pass for NMX 2013, you can take advantage of it for NMX 2014.
  • How do I get started? Despite the length of this page, it’s fairly simple. Choose a tweet you like from the Twitter Tsunami home page and use the “tweet and get it” link to grab your discount and maybe even a surprise.
  • How many times can I Tweet and Get It: You can Tweet as many times as you want. However, you may only use your discount code once (whether it’s for a free pass or 20% off). If you do get more than one different type of reward, we hope you’ll share with friends so they can come to NMX too.
  • Your Tweets aren’t my style, can I make up my own? Absolutely. Tweet using the #NMX hashtag and share a similar message using your own words. Send a link to your tweet to Deb@blogworldexpo.com and Deb’ll hook you up with your discount code.
  • How do I get started?: Go to the Twitter Tsunami page tomorrow, December 5th (If you’re viewing this on December 4th it’s not up yet).  You’ll find a page filled with all the details you need to get started, as well as a variety of Tweets to share. Use the “Use the Tweet and Get It” button for a discount and surprise.
  • How do you guys keep coming up with such awesome ideas? It’s a gift.
See you December 5th on Twitter!

Scholarship Winners Announced

Author:

Congratulations to #NMXU scholarship recipient, Allissa Richardson.

The New Media Expo team is thrilled to announce the winner and first and second runners up of the New Media Expo University scholarship. We received almost 300 entries and every single one of them had something to offer.  Our judges, Blogger Kelby Carr, Podcaster Todd Cochrane and WebTV Producer Jeff Keonig took their jobs seriously and chose finalists based on experience, talent, passion for learning and ability to use their new found knowledge well into the future. Make no mistake, our winners are going to be forces to be reckoned with.

Congratulations to scholarship winner Allissa Richardson, who will attend New Media Expo on our dime. We’re going to fly Allissa to Las Vegas, offer her lodging at the Rio and provide a top-notch educational experience at New Media Expo. We chose Allissa as our scholarship winner because she’s already doing good things. She’s using her knowledge to help others learn how to create slick videos using their smartphones. Allissa has so much to offer content creators and her time at NMX will help to not only elevate her career, but also to enrich her students’ lives.

Please meet Allissa Richardson:

Congratulations also to first runner up Riley Blanton and second runner up Jen Reeves. They are also receiving complimentary content creator passes. We look forward to seeing good things from them in the future.

This Week’s Topic: Adwords

Adwords from Google is a great solution if you want to drive more traffic to your business website or online content, since you can get started so easily. However, it’s easy to waste money on Adwords if you aren’t optimizing your campaigns. This week’s Brilliant Bloggers is all about doing just that – making the most of Google Adwords to help you reach as many new readers, viewers, or customers as possible.

Brilliant Blogger of the Week

A Simple Guide for Setting Up Your First Google AdWords Campaign by Amanda Sibley

I’m a big fan of Hubspot, and this post from Amanda Sibley is top-notch, just like everything else they publish. If you’re just getting started with Google Adwords, this is a great place to start, since Amanda reviews the process step by step. If you’ve used Adwords before though, there are still some valuable tricks and tips in there that you might not already know.

If you aren’t currently using Google Adwords, why not? Writes Amanda:

If it’s because you’re intimidated by Google’s AdWords interface, we get it. There’s a lot of options that make for better targeted campaigns — but also lead to a lot of confusion among marketers new to the paid search game. But fear no more! After reading this post, you’ll be able to execute your own paid search campaign at the drop of a hat.

After you check out Amanda’s post and the rest of the Hubspot blog, you can also follow her on Twitter at @AmandaSibley1.

New Media Expo Announces Scholarship for Content Creators #NMXU #NMX

Author:

There’s no denying New Media Expo offers valuable learning opportunities.  With almost 90 educational sessions presented by the leading experts in new media content creation, podcasters, bloggers and webTV and video producers always return home inspired and ready to put what they learned to good use.  We love that our attendees  take time to share with us that we’ve provided such a valuable educational opportunity, but we also hear from content creators who would love to attend our event but can’t get here for a variety of reasons.

We’re about to make it easier for one person.

Throughout the month of October, we’re accepting applications for the first ever (and hopefully not the last) New Media Expo University scholarship. Offered as part of our new New Media Expo University (#NMXU) educational project, this scholarship will provide a complete educational experience at NMX in Las Vegas from January 6th through 8th 2013 for one lucky recipient.

What does the #NMXU Scholarship Entail?

The beneficiary of the #NMXU scholarship will receive a complete educational experience while at New Media Expo. The scholarship recipient is going to receive airfare from within the Continental U.S., four nights hotel at the Rio Hotel Suites & Casino in Las Vegas, and a three day Blogger/Podcaster/WebTV & Video pass (Excluding BusinessNext). Also, two runners up will also receive a three day Blogger/Podcaster/WebTV pass.

Now, this is no random drawing and we’re not awarding you a spot on the party plane to Vegas. This application is open for people who are truly interested in learning how to take their content creation to a whole new level. There’s even a scholarship application form complete with essay question. Since you’re all creative people, we’re allowing the essay question to be in the form of a 30 second video, 30 second audio, or 250 word paragraph so you can totally stay in your comfort zone and we hope you’ll have some fun with it.

Don’t forget. The #NMXU scholarship is, first and foremost, an educational experience open to all content creators. For this to work, we have to have a few guidelines in place before getting started.

Ready? Here they are:

  • The scholarship is only open to content creators. Since NMX focuses on blogging, podcasting and webTV/video, we request all who apply for the scholarship fall into one of these categories.
  • The #NMXU scholarship is open to folks who are in the early stages of their careers or who are promising up and comers, but don’t necessarily have the financial means to get to #NMX. We’re totally going to be asking you why you feel you should receive this scholarship.
  • We can only get you to Las Vegas from the Continental U.S. That doesn’t mean we’re not accepting overseas candidates, however if you’re from a different continent, you have to land on U.S. soil before we truck you out to the conference.
We have some fine print too, mostly having to do with you not being related to certain people to make it fair. You can find all the details you need, including fine print, on the landing page for the #NMXU Scholarship.

What’s the catch?

This is to be an educational experience. As such, the winner is expected to:

  • Attend at least 10 educational sessions while at NMX
  • Attend at least two networking events
  • Spend at least two hours on the exhibit floor learning about the latest tools and technology
  • Complete at least one guest post for the NMX blog describing your experience so future scholarship applicants can see what a great time you had.

Who Are the Judges for the #NMXU Scholarship?

To make this a fair and level playing field, we brought in a few judges to help us. All are experienced content creators with expertise in blogging, podcasting, webTV/video.

Deans (aka judges) include:

  • Rick Calvert – Co-Chancellor, NMXU (CEO/Co-Founder, New Media Expo)
  • Dave Cynkin – Co-Chancellor, NMXU (CMO/Co-Founder, New Media Expo)
  • Deb Ng – Dean of Students, NMXU (Director of Community, New Media Expo)
  • Kelby Carr – Dean of Blogging, NMXU (CEO Type A Parent )
  • Todd Cochrane – Dean of Podcasting, NMXU (CEO RAW Voice)
  • Mark Friedlander – Dean of WebTV/Video Series, NMXU (National Director, New Media for SAG-Aftra)

How to Apply for the #NMXU Scholarship

  • Fill out the application at the bottom of the landing page and include as much information about yourself as possible.
  • Tell us why you want this scholarship
  • Make sure you take special care with the essay question, which can be given in the form of a 250 word paragraph or a link to a 30 second video, 30 second audio.
  • We’ll let you keep your first born. We’re easy.

Well…what are you waiting for?

Do you think you’re a good fit? The application is open for the entire month of October so you have time to come up with some unique and creative ways to respond to the essay question. Do you know someone else who can benefit? We’d be so grateful if you can share the news about the #NMXU scholarship with your community.

Click here to get started, and good luck!
