Talk about a topic. Product launching is one of the most popular monetization topics out there. Heck, there are entire blogs devoted just to the topic of product launching. Some of the advice I’ve been seeing contradicts other advice – but that’s part of what I love about blogging. This industry is so new, that different people are doing things in different ways and all getting good results. Whether you’re planning a launch for a pdf guide, membership site, or something else – even print book – these brilliant bloggers can help you learn about some of the techniques you can use to make your launch a massive success. I’m sure I’ve missed some awesome posts out there, so please, feel free to leave a comment with a link to your post or a post by someone you love as long as it relates to the topic of product launching. Ok, I’m cheating slightly because this isn’t actually a post, but rather an entire blog. When it comes to launch advice, Dave is the reigning king, and it was impossible for me to pick out a single post to highlight. The “Marketing Funnel” Business Model Sucks by Elizabeth Potts Weistein

Who doesn’t love EPW? When someone says the phrase “brilliant blogger,” this is one of the people who tops my list. In this post/video, she talks about something that I feel very strongly about – the fact that there isn’t just one right way to do things. It’s an older video, but still extremely relevant. Her business model isn’t the traditional funnel – but she still has a way to launch products and make money. The key here is to do what is right for your goals and your audience. 10 Online Strategies for Your Next Product Launch by Beverly Cornell

This post for Mashable is super comprehensive, giving you tons of great ideas you can use when launching your next product. It’s a great post for beginners, but if you’re an experienced launcher, you might get a few new ideas too. Beverly works as the marketing and social media director at Mango Languages, so check out more from her there!

Brilliant Bloggers Talk About Taxes

Today, I have something a little different for you for our Brilliant Blogger series. Usually, I post a little about the topic myself, link to three of the best posts I can find, and then give you a list of links to other posts about the topic. This week is a little different – the topic is taxes for bloggers (and the self-employed in general), and although I have several years of experience with it, I don’t feel qualified to talk about it myself. When it comes to taxes, I also don’t think I can choose just three brilliant posts you should read – you should read as much as you can about the topic…and get a professional to help you complete your return.

Instead, I just want to give you some resources to get you started. If you haven’t yet done your taxes, don’t wait – they’re due mid-April, but most accounting firms don’t have time for last-minute freelancers. So, check out the following links and then get them done ASAP:

Taxgirl – “Because paying taxes is painful… but reading about them shouldn’t be.” Taxgirl is by far my favorite site when it comes to learning about taxes. You can ask a question, but before you do, make sure to search through her site – there’s a ton of information on that site. Kelly Phillips Erb (taxgirl) has also done some posts for Problogger, which you can find at the following links:

About.com: Blogging – About.com’s blogging section is full of great information, and the tax tips page is especially helpful for bloggers. On this page, you’ll find information about how taxes work for someone self-employed, deductions bloggers can take, and more.

What Bloggers Should Know About Taxes from BlogHer – BlogHer’s blog has some of the best information out there, and this post on taxes is no different. What I love about it is that blogger Melanie Nelson links to a number of other great places to learn even more about taxes for bloggers, so it becomes a hub of information.

So, that’s the short list of resources I wanted to share. As always with Brilliant Bloggers, feel free to link to your own posts, but please make sure that they’re well-researched and clear – you don’t want to lead anyone down the wrong financial path.

For some reason, most people are just hard-wired to be attracted to list posts. List posts have the potential to go viral faster than most other types of posts and they typically keep people interested longer since they are extremely easy to scan. This is a list post of sorts, but you can format them in a number of different ways. Some lists are “top” or “best” while others are comprehensive (like this one). There’s no doubt that list posts can be an asset to just about any blog – but there are downfalls as well. Let’s look at what some brilliant bloggers have to say about list posts.

I love this post, because it talks not only about the benefits of writing list for readers, but also about the benefits it has for you as a blogger. Joanna also gives some great examples of list posts from around the web and discusses why bloggers so often use the number seven when writing lists.       This Week’s Topic: StumbleUpon

      StumbleUpon is the ultimate time waster (and I mean that in a good way!). If you don’t have the toolbar installed, I suggest you do so – it’s your portal to lots of amazing things on the Internet that you’d never find otherwise. You just set your parameters and hit the Stumble button…be warned that it’s easy to spend hours surfing this way.

      If you have a hit on StumbleUpon, you can bring in thousands of new visitors – and while traffic does spike, it also continues over time as long as people keep giving you the thumbs up of approval (like a Facebook “like”). Be warned, though – the user’s mouse usually hovers on the Stumble button, so if you don’t catch their attention quickly, they’ll be on to the next random page on the Internet. Today’s articles talk about how to best use StumbleUpon to not just see that traffic spike, but also keep people reading.

      Like last week, this week’s topic is serendipitous, since StumbleUpon just announced that they’re being newly backed by investor DAG Ventures, and with their current backers securely in place, that means the company has a reported $17 million to play with over the coming months. So, expect to see this bookmarking platform continue to evolve and expand! (Oh, and this come after buying back the company for just $29 million after selling the company to eBay in 2007 for $75 million. Talk about brilliant double dipping!)
