BlogWorld & New Media Expo Comes To New York City!

Author:

About a week ago I sent out a tweet “ARGHHHHH. We are all freaking busting at the seems over here to tell you guys some big news…….   “.

This is what we have been dying to share. BlogWorld & New Media Expo will host it’s first east coast event at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City this May 24 – 26! But wait there’s more. “BlogWorld East” will be co-located with Book Expo America!

Why are we doing this?

Because you asked for it. We have seen the numerous tweets, blog posts,  and emails asking for an event “like BlogWorld” on the east coast. We heard you.

Does this mean there won’t be a BlogWorld West?

We will be announcing the dates and venue for BlogWorld west next Tuesday right here on the blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc so stay tuned….

Why New York City and Why co-locate with Book Expo?

Two year’s ago at BlogWorld Leo Laporte said during his talk “We are not new media anymore. Now we are just THE MEDIA”. While we all believe that to be true, many in the traditional media are not convinced yet. Since our inception we have had a couple of Big Hairy Audacious Goals. One of them is to foster and accelerate the convergence of traditional and new media.  We can’t think of a single better opportunity to help us accomplish that goal. New York City is the center of the traditional media universe. For four days Book Expo America is the center of the traditional publishing universe.  By locating BlogWorld and Book Expo side by side we are bringing the best and brightest from both communities together for the first time anywhere.  By the way the folks at Book Expo are just as excited about this as we are.

We only have three short months until the event so news will be coming fast and furious. If you want to exhibit or sponsor the event, please contact Patti@blogworldexpo.com right away.

If you would like to speak, you can contact our Conference Director Deb Ng on twitter @blogworldexpo or via email Deb@BlogWorldexpo.com.

For those that want to attend, Registration will be live in a few days.

You can see more details about BlogWorld & New Media Expo NYC here.

I will be checking this post for all of our questions and comments so please fire away.

Ahhhhh! I had a feeling this was the news. But then I forgot my speculations and then saw this brilliant announcement, and am jumping for joy!

    HECK YEAH.

  • Dave Taylor

Very nice job, Rick and team. Two BlogWorlds. I presume this won’t impact October in Vegas?

    • Rick

This is in addition to “BlogWorld West” which will still happen this fall Dave. That news will come out Tuesday next week.

  • Ricardo Bueno

Awesome news fellas! Excited to hear it and I know it’ll rock!

  • Mike Stenger

Very cool. I take it that since there will also be a BlogWorld West this year as well, you might offer some sort of discount if one was interested in purchasing both?

  • Chris C. Ducker

    Awesome news, Rick!

Expansion and ‘trying new things’ is a good sign for any movement. And that’s how I see BWE. An awesome movement.

    Keep rockin’…!

    Chris

  • Laura-Jane

Man, I want to go!!!! Not in the budget this year though. Enjoy!!

  • Marsha Collier

Brilliant! The perefect extension for BWE! Congrats! Looking forward to the event.

  • Dave Peck

Congrats!! This is no doubt your first step in your mater plan to….take over the world!!

  • Traci

This is great news! Last summer NYC hosted both TBEX and BlogHer, and it was looking like an anti-climatic year here. Looking forward to a productive, educational event!

  • Judy Helfand

    Rick, et al…
There is a great line from the play “Love Letters” by A. R. Gurney. Melissa to Andy: “Sooner or later everyone comes to New York!”

    Thanks for the great news.

    Judy

  • Lucretia Pruitt

    Woot!!

Congrats to all of you over there at BlogWorld killing yourselves to make this happen! 🙂 See, I’m all about NY!

May 24-26th? So we’d be there during the week, eh? Hmmm. #BeginPlanning

Y’all are in my calendar now!! What an awesome turn of events.

  • Liz Pullen

Great news! I finally will be going to a BlogWorld Conference! Double work for you but wonderful news for those of us on the East Coast.

    • Rick Calvert

There were so many folks who said the same thing as you Sandy and Liz that we had to do the NYC event. Seeing all of the positive feedback absolutely makes it worth the effort.

    • Rick Wolff

…What she said! Finally I get to go to one of these things! Looking forward to meeting lots of people, including (but not limited to) Lucretia Pruitt. (And Liz Pullen, but I meet her often at local things.) This is just the impetus I need to crack the whip on my blogging efforts. (As if the blog itself weren’t enough. It’s the date that does it. A self-imposed deadline isn’t the same.)

  • Sandy

I am so there. I could never justify the trip to California but since you’ll be down the street, a can ride seems worthy.

  • Sarah Wallace

Though this is great news, I feel like this somewhat short notice, don’t you think?

I can’t go because I’m already going to another conference this weekend.

Would have been nice if you had announced sooner.

    • Rick Calvert

We know it is short notice Sarah and I apologize for that. We have been working on this for 6 months but just got the final approval that we could go forward this morning at 5:30 am PST. The good news is, we know we will be back in NYC alongside Booke Expo America again next year!

  • Jade Craven

May 26th is my birthday 🙂 I’ll try planning for next year, and will concentrate on getting to Vegas. Fascinating news though!

  • Jen Gresham

Fantastic! I love your thinking on co-locating with Book Expo. Smart thinking, and I think the synergy will be awesome. Will one ticket get us into both events, or will we have to pay for two registrations? Just wondering how you see the interaction working.

Putting it on my calendar now!

    • Rick Calvert

Great question Jen! I should have included that in my post. All BlogWorld attendees with a Weekend Pass or Full Access Pass can attend any Book Expo session and their exhibit floor. BlogWorld Exhibits Only pass holders will have to purchase an upgrade because Book Expo does not separate conference passes and exhibit passes.

All Book Expo attendees can access the blogworld exhibit floor for free but will need to purchase an upgrade to attend the blogworld conference sessions.

  • Bob Dunn

I have mixed emotions. Love NYC and think it’s awesome that you are doing BWE there! But now I have to decide between the two… and will my east coast peeps not come over for the west coast gig?

    • Rick Calvert

That was one of the things that prevented us from doing this sooner Bob, but there were so many people on the east coast who just found it too difficult to make out all the way across the country that we felt we had to bring the event to them.

  • Jay Baer

Congrats guys. Really excited for you! Happy to help however I can.

  • Candace

Exciting…if I weren’t due May 25, I would be there! Hope you continue this next year!

  • Des Walsh

Congratulations Rick! It’s truly wonderful to see BWE has grown so well as to be able to do this and a tribute to your vision and daring, not so many years ago. And your business partners and great team, of course.

Hmm, where are all those characters who said it wouldn’t work? 🙂

NYC in May is a bit of a trek for me but we’ll buy some lottery tickets.

  • Wittejoe

MycroBurst is looking forward to attending this event, for our first time, as an exhibitor.  It’s an exciting time to be part of this media evolution. Come see us at booth #316 to learn more about crowdsourcing design solutions.
